2003 Up-To-Date Hunting Report
Late season rifle Bull and Cow
We have had an interesting late season so far. Our Cow hunters have enjoyed great success and out of the three bull hunters one killed a nice bull in the 300 B&C class and another passing up a 320 bull.
Late season archery Deer
Sorry about the UPDATE delay we have been busy with the latest hunting seasons.
We took 3 traditional archery mule deer hunters and all three hunters saw Pope and Young class bucks. 1 hunter had a shot at 15 yards and the other hunters were unfortunate and weren't able to get a shot off but still saw numerous bucks.
03-04 Lion Season
Our hard work and a little cooperation with the weather has made for a great start to our Lion season. In the past 8 weeks we have harvested 12 cats and treed 14. 10 of the 12 Lions harvested have been Toms, all of which were big mature cats.
With a tremendous late season push Johnnie Hamilton took two nice Toms with conditions in the cats favor.
Rifle Elk - Colorado
Week One:
We have four hunters this week and opening day started out with one hunter filling, one hunter missed a shot and two hunters passing up bulls. An excellent opening day. We finished out the week with two out of four hunters harvesting bulls and one hunter passing up multiple legal bulls looking for a whopper. We were pleased with our 75% opportunities. Check out the pictures below by clicking on the View Rifle Elk Success Photos.
Week Two:
Our second week of rifle elk season went great as well. Out of 5 hunters we harvested 3 bulls (2 6X6 and one 5X5) and 4 mule deer including one 30 inch monster mulie. Our successful elk hunters were Mike Charlton, Eldon VanNess both from Oklahoma and Forrest Holnbach from California. Nate Gaines, Mike Charlton and Eldon VanNess harvested the mulies. Week Three:
Our Third season went well despite the warm weather! 65-70 degree highs made for tough hunting. Out of 7 hunters we harvested 1 incredible 8x9 bull, 1 4x4 bull and four mule deer bucks. Unfortunately we also had 1 nice 6x6 bull missed along with several close calls with other bulls. Mule Deer proved a challenging target as we also had numerous "just misses" with them as well. With the unseasonably warm temperatures we also had the opportunity to see 9 different bears, very unusual for this time of year.
Week four:
To our surprise the bears still have not gone into their dens yet. With no sign of snow and temperatures in the high 60's who could blame them. This week we harvested 1 nice 6x2 broken main beamed bull along with another hunter satisfying 5x5 bull. With the bears still out and roaming we were still able to take a nice jet black boar. We had 1 bull missed and a couple of close calls with other bulls.
Archery Elk - Colorado
Week One:
We had three hunters this week and the weather was hot which kept the bulls from really rutting. One hunter passed up two cows and one hunter missed a shot at a bull. Our other hunter never had a shot opportunity but saw a number of elk
Week Two:
Lisa Price combined her successful archery antelope hunt with an archery elk hunt and hoped to harvest both on one trip. After her successful antelope hunt (see below) she had three mature bull elk within 50 yards and saw about 7 different bulls, but no shots.
Week Three:
We had three Long Island hunters this week. Tommy Bender was successful in harvesting a trophy 6 X 5 elk. Tom passed a smaller bull and some cows to shoot his trophy. The other two hunters saw bulls and one has passed a cow, but neither have filled out yet. They still have a couple more days to hunt so we are hoping they are successful as well. Success photos coming soon.

Archery Antelope - Colorado
August/September 2003
Week One:
Our first week was great despite heavy rainfall just before season. We had 6 hunters the first week. All six hunters saw Pope and Young class antelope. 5 of 6 had shots. 4 of the 6 had shots within 25 yards or less. Two hunters harvested pronghorns.
Week Two:
Week two Went great we had 6 hunters, all of which saw pope and young bucks. Three hunters harvested nice bucks, two missed bucks and only 1 didn't have an opportunity. All shots were 25 yards or less.
Some unique sightings this week: Larry Case from Oklahoma saw a golden eagle kill a coyote 30 yards from his blind and his son Clint Case saw a golden eagle take a blue winged teal off a pond.
Fred slipped into a blind for two days and harvested a nice buck on video as well.
Week Three:
We had seven hunters in camp this week. It was a rough week for missed opportunities. All hunters saw trophy class bucks. Once buck was harvested. Two hunters missed shots under 30 yards. One hunter passed a buck and three hunters didn't have opportunities. Cooler weather and rain didn't help us out this week.
Week Four:
We had two women hunters this week and had a lot of rain as well. Lisa Price from PA shot a nice buck. Brenda Reynolds from Maryland saw some trophy bucks but never got a shot. Congratulations to Lisa.
Week Five:
We had two hunters this week and the cooler weather started to come in as well. Both of our traditional hunters each had two shot opportunities each and but never connected.
